Public praise EventGuard for Gala Day security
2009 was the first year that security at the Norfolk Gala Day was not provided by Norfolk Constabulary.

Chris Eldridge Norfolk Gala Day Manager was extremely impressed with EventGuard’s team: “I would like to thank the EventGuard team for their commitment, professionalism and smartness when they took on a number of roles at this year’s Gala Day, the first without Norfolk Constabulary. People have gone out of their way to praise the EventGuard staff.”
“As the site manager,” Chris continued, “ I liased with EventGuard’s Manager Kerri who was exemplary and, despite a long day, remained enthusiastic as did the whole team.”
Managing Director Nigel Briggs was pleased at the response of visitors: “The positive comments and feedback from the event visitors was tremendous; for people to take the time to go out of their way to pass on these comments is a great testament to the staff at this event.” |

Norse takes over College security
As of 1st August 2009, Norse Commercial Services has taken over a range of security services to one of the country’s largest further and higher education colleges.
Security at City College Norwich, which enrols over 14,000 students a year and employs around 1000 staff, will involve CCTV, mobile patrols, alarm monitoring, parking and on-site traffic management, money collection and transfer, and portering duties undertaken by Security Caretakers.
The initial 3-year contract, which will be delivered by Norse subsidiary EventGuard, was won following a competitive tendering process that involved some the country’s leading security providers and is worth £450k per annum, with options to extend for a further 2 years.
Dick Palmer, Principal of City College Norwich, said: “Security arrangements are an integral aspect of creating the right learning environment for our students and staff. I look forward to a successful working partnership with EventGuard, to help ensure that the College continues to be regarded as a safe and secure place for all in which to learn, work or visit”.
Norse Sales and Marketing Director Geoff Tucker commented:
“The City College contract is a clear example of how times have changed in the way a large scale security operation can be managed via a partnership approach. We are proud to be able to deliver, as part of our commitment to the local community, our high quality service to such a large and well respected institution.”

National media interest in EventGuard accreditation
Gaining Police Accreditation has attracted national media interest in EventGuard.
The move by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) to empower duly-accredited private firms to issue fixed penalty notices for certain offences, and to direct traffic on the public highway, came under the national media spotlight recently.
The Times article highlighted EventGuard’s role in ‘high-profile’ events such as the Royal Norfolk Show, and acknowledged that the company ‘has a high reputation locally’ with clients that ‘include Cambridge Football Club, the University of East Anglia and the BBC’.
EventGuard Managing Director Nigel Briggs was with his team at an event in Essex when the Times rang his mobile asking for an interview.
This was followed by calls from the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, BBC TV and Radio 4 and the Eastern Evening News, resulting in considerable coverage of the company’s role in augmenting the police service.

Traffic Management
The annual, two-day Royal Norfolk Show regularly attracts over 100,000 visitors, adding considerably to the traffic flow around the Showground on the outskirts of Norwich.
In 2009 traffic management for the Show was, for the first time, the responsibility of an organisation other the local constabulary, with the contract being awarded to EventGuard.
Throughout the two days the company’s staff were deployed at the key junctions on roads leading to the showground, earning high praise from Norfolk Constabulary.
Colin Page, traffic manager for Norfolk Constabulary, hailed the way EventGuard managed the whole operation, saying, “ The traffic management this year carried out by EventGuard was delivered with excellent results; it was the best it has been for several years.“
Nigel Briggs, Managing Director of EventGuard was full of praise for his staff:
“The quality of staff and the work they put in to ensure everyone got into the show with as little disruption as possible was superb. The remarks by the constabulary speak volumes and clearly endorse our position as a leading supplier in this field.”
As the only company in Norfolk accredited to carry out such work EventGuard is seeing considerable increase in the number of requests to organise traffic management. In addition to the Royal Norfolk Show, the company organised and carried out the management of traffic for the Norwich Lord Mayor’s celebrations and at the Blickling Hall concerts, and has contracts for a number of other key events in and around the County in 2009.

Charity football match
A leading local cancer research charity has benefited to the tune of over £5,000 from a football match, between EventGuard and one of its clients, UCP.
Ex Norwich and Scotland goalkeeper, Bryan Gunn, was presented with a cheque for over £5,160 to the Dove Trust, a charity which handles all the giving administration for a number of small and medium sized charities including the Bryan Gunn Leukaemia Appeal,
The money was raised via sponsorship of the event and a number of collections throughout the day. In one collection, the eagle-eyed accounts lady from UCP spotted one of the limited, undated 20p recently minted and distributed in error by the Royal Mint. The coin, similar to examples currently being sold on Ebay for several hundred pounds, was also presented to Bryan Gunn. The charity proposes to auction the coin, probably via Ebay.
The match, held at Norwich City FC’s Carrow Road ground, resulted in a win for EventGuard by 3 goals to 2.

Police Accreditation first for EventGuard
EventGuard are the first private security firm in Norfolk to achieve accreditation under the Norfolk Constabulary Community Safety Accreditation Scheme.
The scheme allows the Chief Constable to accredit organisations to assist the police in tackling, and therefore reducing, anti-social behaviour. By becoming part of the wider police family, and under the Police Reform Act 2002, this gives the accredited person limited but targeted powers to help address local needs.
To date 25 members of EventGuard’s staff have individually passed the rigorous vetting and training process. The qualification is reviewed annually by the police, with checking of both individuals and the company under strict police policies.
Nigel Briggs, Managing Director, EventGuard, commented, “The benefits are wide ranging. The police gain an additional fully trained resource, the community see increased safety, and for EventGuard there will be new business opportunities. As an accredited company, the in-depth training our staff receive means we can now offer an even higher calibre of personnel to our clients.”
